Crossing the Mississippi River in Memphis en route to Dallas

In our coast to coast travel through the United States and Canada, today we have a day of transition, road route.

We soon left the hotel near MemphisWell, we had 370 miles ahead until Mount pleasant, on way to Dallas. The initial plan would have been to go directly to Dallas, but we decided to distribute the routes to better enjoy the road, even if it were reducing nights in different places.

On the route we cross the Mississppi river and the entire State of Arkansas, passing near Litlle rock, birthplace of Bill Clinton.

About 15 hours after eating in a Denny's From a roadside service area, we arrive at the motel. Once installed, we are dedicated to tour the area of Mount pleasant, a fairly standard American town, small, with many residential areas and various shopping centers and stores.

The truth is that we are still surprised by the American style of the houses where there are no separation fences between them. The overall aesthetic improves greatly, although some privacy may be lost.

We visited a very large supermarket called Brookshire's and a type mall Leroy Merlin called Lowell's. The family sizes of some kitchens, washing machines and barbecues caught our attention. In food supermarkets there is a family package of almost all products.

Around 8 in the morning of the next day, having breakfast, we left in the direction of the motel that we had booked in the Dallas surroundings, where we arrived around 11 am, with enough time to start the visit of the area.

We are in the Texas state, the second largest and largest in the United States. You may not know that Spain owned the Texan territory, during the Mexican viceroyalty.

After the succession of the Spanish crown, Mexico He became the rightful owner of Texas until 1836, when a group of Saxon immigrants rose up in arms, unilaterally proclaiming an "independent republic." The US intervention in Mexico resulted in a war between Mexico and the United States in 1846, with Mexican defeat.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the oil became the great protagonist of Texas, which led to a great economic boom, if many high-tech companies have now settled. Austin is the capital of the State of Texas, although Houston is the most populous city.
